Dan Avey Memorial Service-- A memorial service for PPB member Dan Avey, who passed away August 15 at Cedars Sinai Hospital, will be held Aug. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sportsmen's Lodge. Dan was the former voice of the Los Angeles Kings, KFWB anchor for decades, professor at USC and Cal State Northridge, recipient of over 15 Golden Mikes, co-host of the KABC morning show with Ken Minyard and a recipient of a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was 69. (LARadio.com)

Binder Recognized for His T.A.M.I. Show -- PPB Board member Steve Binder received a standing ovation at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland following the screening of his T.A.M.I. Show. The iconic 1964 TV show, which Binder directed, features early performances by several rock greats including James Brown, The Rolling Stones and The Supremes.

New Hollywood Canteen Book -- A new book about the history of the Hollywood Canteen has been published by Gary McMaster, Curator/Director of the Camp Roberts Museum. PPB members may obtain more information by emailing him at gary.mcmaster@us.army.mil . The price is $13.00, which includes postage.

Board Members Approved -- PPB welcomes these new members of our Board, approved by the membership at the May 21 luncheon: Dee Baker, Tommy Cook, Dale Olson, Alan Perris, Bianca Pino and Kristin Sheets. Thanks for three years of service on the Board to outgoing members Bob Matheson, Gene Webster, Chuck Street, Ken Miller, Larry Vanderveen, Ruth Ashton Taylor and Ron Greenberg.
